Beaujolais Beyond Cliches

A lovely presentation by the French booth at ProWine 2018 on Beaujolais, a region with rising status!

1. Grille Midi 2015, Domaine des Terres dorees, Jean-Paul Brun. Poor sandy soils over pink granite, 12.5% aging up to 5 yrs. Bright ruby with medium acidity, fresh, nose slightly muted at first and opened up to have methol/perfume with a tinge of gameyness. The most 'Gamay' of the 5 wines.

2. Saint-Amour. Domaine des Billards, Maison Jean Loron 2015. Importer: vin atelier, ling@vinatelier.com. Ruby-Garnet,very soft and plush, with tons of rose/perfume, 13%, with caly-siliceous soils, with slightly sweet firm tannins and the longest finish of the 5 wines.

3. Julienas . Chateau des capitans, georges duboeuf 2015. le.vigne@singaporewines.com. Darkest wine of the lot, plenty of oak, blackcurrents, a bit of milk-chocolate fefel, pretty powerful, 14%, tannins pretty hidden.

4. Morgon, Domaine Mee Godard Grand Gras 2015. WEA. Dark Ruby with some purple tinge, pretty fine, some peppers on the nose, plums, cherry on palette.

5. Moulin-a-vent, champ de cour 2015. Grand Vin. Tons of pepper on the nose after opening up, ala cote rotie, pretty sweet palette on entry, quite smooth and pretty sweet on the finish.
